One in Jesus Christ

What Is An Identity?

Your identity comes from the things in your life that define you. It might be a title of relationship in your life or the work you do. It could also be the hobbies you enjoy or the people you’re around. Your identity also comes from the values and morals that you keep. Believing in certain topics or ideas narrows your identity to certain groups and columns. Your identity is never final. It changes with every interest you have, new relationships that come, and new opinions you develop.

Christ Changes Your Identity

When a person accepts Christ as their Saviour, they are possibly changing their identity and doing a complete 180. Before Christ, it’s possible that they were a part of the complete opposite of what Christ represents. When they accept Jesus, their identity becomes intertwined with His.

Jesus is the Constant, and we are the variables. We are always changing but Christ stays the same. He doesn’t mould around us, we mould ourselves around Him. To find out who you are in Christ, you must first realise what He does in your life.

We no longer chase after our desires

When looking back on our own identity before Christ, it was defined as our own interests, relationships, and titles. When we become Christ-followers, it becomes completely about Him. What I can do to bring glory to God today? How can I invite God into the challenges of my life? How can I further God’s Kingdom? These questions bring ourselves and our identity into a place that becomes more about God and less about ourselves.

We stop comparing ourselves

When we realise this world has a greater purpose, our daily life and trials become minimal. Before we were trying to keep up with everyone and everything around us. In competition to have the best things. When we accept Christ in our lives, we receive the very BEST thing we could ever imagine. Suddenly the things we thought we wanted, don’t seem so important anymore. When Christ enters our lives, we receive an identity that reflects His own.

We stop fearing the future

God has a plan for everyone He calls into service. When we find that out, we stop wondering what will happen to us. We realise that God’s plan is all we need and we no longer are afraid of what’s going to happen in the end.
